Birth Sisters of Charlottesvilleis a women of color community based doula collective supporting women of color through their birth journey and into motherhood. Their aim is to amplify the resiliency of Black, Indigenous, Women of Color by drawing on life experiences, shared values, training, and sacred legacies to provide culturally rooted, trauma intuitive perinatal services and advocacy. In 2020, ECFN members provided their first collective grant to Birth Sisters to support their service to women in the City of Charlottesville and the surrounding counties.
Charlottesville & Albemarle Public Preschools
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down public schools in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. ECFN members responded by providing pre-school kits for early learners to use at home.
Piedmont Housing Alliance’s Early Learning Center
The Early Learning Center at Friendship Court (developed by Piedmont Housing Alliance) is a state-of-the-art childcare facility that has been designed to address a pressing need for high-quality early childhood education while capitalizing on the assets of local partners. ECFN members provided matching funds to support construction costs for the Center.
